An aviation officer has been killed in combat while deployed to Afghanistan with a Marine special operations unit. Capt. Garrett T. Lawton, 31, originally of Charleston, W.Va., died Monday in Herat province, Afghanistan, according to a Defense Department news release. Lawton was assigned to MarSOC’s 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion.
